A Grade 11 student at Terry Fox secondary was crowned last week as Miss Teen Port Coquitlam-World 2013. In July, Anastasiya Toropova will represent B.C. at the Miss Teen Canada-World National Pageant in Toronto. Coquitlam resident and homelessness advocate Sandy Burpee was presented with a Diamond Jubilee award from Coquitlam city council on Monday. Meanwhile, Port Moody Mayor Mike Clay was on hand this month to congratulate the winners of the annual Tri-Cities’ spelling bee for Grade 4 and 5 students. After 10 rounds that heard the competitors spell out words like cognition, conjecture and exuberant, the judges named Ashley Wang as the winner with Ben Draga and Sophia Kim taking second and third places respectively.
