Support the walk for Alzheimer's in Port Moody

Organizers hope for a good crowd in aid of services for families
Walk for Alzheimers
The Investors Group Walk for Alzheimer's takes place in Port Moody on May 7.

Longtime Coquitlam teachers Rob and Patty Whitelock are now helping to educate the community about Alzheimer's and the importance of supporting families dealing with the neurological disorder.

The couple is this year's Tri-Cities Ridge Meadows honourees in the 2017 Investors Group Walk for Alzheimer's.

After Rob was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2008, the couple has been active in support groups and education opportunities, including the Shaping the Journey program.

"We've had wonderful support," stated Rob, in his online profile, which also describes the couples' teaching experience, volunteering and retirement.

On Sunday, May 7, the community is invited to take part in the walk that helps to raise thousands of dollars for the Alzheimer Society of BC to help the organization provide support services, education and research.
The walk is 5 km in length and pet friendly and people are encouraged to register online at www.alzheimer.ca/bc/

It takes place in Port Moody starting at city hall at 100 Newport Dr., with registration at noon, and the walk taking place from 1-3 p.m.

This is the 11th year of the walk, which has raised $5.2 million over the last 10 years, including $775,000 province-wide in 2016.
