Tips for Coquitlam Canada Day

City has some advice for those going to the July 1 festivities at Town Centre Park
Canada Day
Coquiltam's Canada Day celebration goes all day Sunday.

There’ll be lots to do and lots of people at Coquitlam’s Canada Day celebration so the city has come up with some tips to make it enjoyable.

At the top is taking transit to the July 1 national birthday party (noon to 10:30 p.m.) at Town Centre Park. Hopping on the SkyTrain will land Coquitlam celebrants at the Lafarge Lake-Douglas station next to the park. If that’s not an alternative, there will be plenty of parking at the Gleneagle secondary school with an event shuttle to the site. Cyclists can drop their bikes at a secure bike valet which is open from 11:30 a.m. until 11 p.m.

The second tip is to bring a chair to watch the music and entertainment from the different stages. That also makes it possible to eat lunch or dinner without doing a juggling act with entree, sides and dessert.

The city suggests getting there early to claim a good spot to watch the fireworks (10 p.m.) and entertainment.

Dressing for changing weather is also a good idea since early indications are it will be a mix of sun and cloud. And bring a water bottle to stay hydrated. Free refills are available at the city’s water station.

The final tip is for after it’s all over. The city wants attendees to complete a survey (coquitlam.ca/canadadaysurvey) to provide feedback. Those that do will be entered into a draw for a $500 Coquitlam Centre gift card.

All the stage schedules, food vendors and activities are available at coquitlam.ca/canadaday.
