Forty students at Port Moody Arts Centre will display their work this month in a new exhibit that starts Thursday.

The opening reception on June 9 will run from 6 to 8 p.m. at the facility located at 2425 St. Johns St.

Admission to the event is free and the artists will be in attendance.

Among the 70-plus art pieces on display is an oil on canvas by Brian Yaremus, titled Goalie.

He took the Introduction to Painting with Oils course with Agata Teodorowicz. “I had never thought I would ever be a painter. Through Agata’s instruction and coaching I’ve found myself with several paintings I am proud of,” he said in a news release.

And there is the acrylic on canvas work, titled Light of Inspiration, by Kristel Biletski who studied Exploring Acrylics with Tammy Pilon.

“Tammy taught us to think outside of the box, to be able to mix different mediums of art to create something beautiful and interesting,” she said.

• The display runs until July 2.
