Kemp named as PMAC ceramic leader
James Kemp is the new ceramic artist-in-residence at PMAC.
A graduate of Emily Carr University of Art and Design and the recipient of the 2012 Circle Craft Graduation Award for Ceramics, Kemp will use his year-long posting to finish a large body of sculptural work that includes wheel thrown, textured paddling, coil and slab construction techniques.
During his tenure, Kemp will also offer workshops and classes in the clay studio.
Meanwhile, Kiff Holland will kick off the first of PMAC's Celebrating Artists & Art series with a weekend master class on painting.
The session, which runs June 23 and 24, will involve participants working on marine watercolours — in particular, creating the effects of light on the sea, sky and shoreline.
Currently, Holland teaches at Capilano University.
