Coquitlam seniors will hear more songs this year through a music therapy program that got a boost this month from Hard Rock Casino Vancouver.

Music Heals — a cross-Canada charitable group helping children and seniors and others in palliative care, at burn units and with autism and dementia as well as in bereavement and rehabilitation — will get $6,000 from the Coquitlam gaming venue on United Boulevard.

Executive director Chris Brandt said his organization has given $800,000 to music therapy programs since it formed four years. It recently reached out for a donation from Hard Rock and “they were very supportive in their response,” Brandt told The Tri-City News.

Added Johnny DeFazio, the casino’s operations vibe manager, in a news release: “We hope this partnership succeeds by bringing life and music into the hearts and ears of music lovers of all ages within our Tri-Cities community.”
