Port Moody has its first officially declared candidate for mayor in the Oct. 20 civic elections.

Rob Vagramov, a city councillor for the past four years, announced Thursday he will launch his candidacy for the city’s top job Saturday at 5:30 p.m. at the pier in Rocky Point Park.

Vagramov, 26, said in a press release he wants to run for mayor because he feels the Port Moody has been steered “onto an unsustainable course."

“The last four years have revolved around deciding how to grow our city,” Vagramov said, adding he believes many of those decisions will escalate Port Moody’s population beyond targets agreed to by the community in the city’s current official community plan that was adopted in 2014. “This is not fair to our existing residents."

Vagramov has lived in the city since 2001. He works as a technology consultant for a Vancouver-based startup.
