New foundation for Hawthorne seniors care launched today
Affordable housing and care for seniors in the Tri-Cities is about to be strengthened with the establishment of a new foundation.
Today, Thursday, the Heart of Hawthorne Foundation was officially launched to raise money for capital projects at the Hawthorne Campus of Care in Port Coquitlam.
"This is really exciting for us," said Hawthorne executive director Lenore Pickering, who said the foundation will raise money for projects such as repairing a garden deck that is now closed. "This is a whole new enterprise initiative to start to take responsibility for raising funds ourselves for some of these projects."
A new society has been formed under the chairmanship of Wayne Moser to govern the endowment fund for the Hawthorne Care Family, which includes 271 units of affordable housing in Dogwood Manor and Dogwood Place as well as the Hawthorne Seniors Care Community.
"The establishment of the foundation marks an exciting new direction for the society, as it will enhance Hawthorne’s ability to raise permanent endowment funds, improve leadership skills, training and sustainable program funding for the Hawthorne Care Community and our seniors," stated Moser in a press release.
