Coquitlam RCMP is asking for witnesses to come forward after an impaired driver was involved in a motor vehicle accident last Thursday.

The incident happened at around 8:40 p.m. on June 14 along Lougheed Highway west of Shaughnessy Street in Port Coquitlam.

Police responded after a 1993 four-door grey Honda Civic travelling east on Lougheed collided with three vehicles that were stopped at a red light at the intersection.

The driver attempted to run away before being caught by an off-duty Port Moody police officer.

Nobody was injured in the collision and the suspect was arrested, and now faces charges for impaired driving and failing to remain at the scene of an accident as well as driving while prohibited.

"The driver has a long history of impaired driving and was a prohibited driver at the time of the accident," Coquitlam RCMP said in a press release.

Police are considering additional charges and are seeking information from anyone who may have witnessed the driver's actions in the lead-up to the collision.

Anyone with information is asked to call Coquitlam RCMP at 604-945-1550. Those who wish to remain anonymous can call 1-800-222-8477 or go to www.solvecrime.ca.
