Wu to run in Coq. byelection
Another Coquitlam resident is running for a city council seat in next month's byelection.
Previous council contender Vincent Wu announced Monday he will seek one of the two spots left open by Linda Reimer and Selina Robinson, who were elected MLAs in May.
In his press release, Wu said he wants city council to engage with more residents and new Canadians, and he cites his top campaign issues as transportation-oriented development, the Evergreen Line and Burke Mountain; he also wants to make Coquitlam accessible and affordable and to promote local business.
Wu has lived in Coquitlam for 16 years and has volunteered on civic committees as well as non-profit groups.
He is the fourth person to declare his candidacy in the Oct. 26 byelection; the nomination period closes Friday.
Voters will get a chance to hear from the would-be councillors at all-candidates meetings on Oct. 16 (Tri-Cities' Chamber of Commerce, Douglas College, David Lam campus) and Oct. 17 (Burquitlam Community Association, Sir Frederick Banting middle school); both meetings start at 7 p.m.
