Douglas College to research well-being of people with mental illness
A Douglas College researcher and students in the college's therapeutic recreation program will be studying the health and well-being of people living with mental illness.
Funded by a $135,000 Vancouver Foundation grant, Colleen Reid will be working on the two-year research project with Open Door Group, which provides employment and job skills programs.
The goals of the project are to identify how people with mental health challenges experience community inclusion, health and well-being, and whether therapeutic recreation programs make a difference.
As part of the project, Open Door Group clients will use cameras to document their daily living experiences. Peer researchers will then interview the clients about what the images mean to them.
