Coquitlam will host 2016 Seniors Games
The B.C. Seniors Games — and the influx of visitors and tourists that come with the event — will be coming to Coquitlam in 2016.
B.C. Seniors Games president June Parsons made the announcement Monday morning at the Poirier Sports and Leisure Complex, saying Coquitlam had the volunteers and facilities necessary to make the games a success.
More than 3,500 seniors from across the province are expected to compete in 26 sporting events over the four-day competition, which the city expects to generate $2 million in economic offshoots.
"Many people put a lot of effort into the games bid, so this is great news for Coquitlam," said Mayor Richard Stewart. "Our community is proud to support good health in all stages of life. What better way to showcase this than to host the inspiring role models competing in the games."
