Eleven names on byelection ballot
Coquitlam voters will see one less name on the ballot for this month's byelection.
Andy Lacuna dropped out of the civic race before the nomination period closed last Friday at 4 p.m., a city spokesperson said.
As a result, there will be 11 candidates vying for two seats on city council, left vacant by Linda Reimer and Selina Robinson — both of whom were elected as MLAs in May:
• Michael Bell
• Ben Craig
• Ben B.H. Kim
• Barrie Lynch
• Doug Macdonell
• Kevin Startin
• Teri Towner
• Chris Wilson
• Vincent Wu
• Kurt Zaporozan
• Bonita Zarrillo
Meanwhile, there are two all-candidates' meetings scheduled a week before the Oct. 26 byelection. The Tri-Cities' Chamber of Commerce will host a gathering Oct. 16 at 7 p.m. at the David Lam campus of Douglas College (1250 Pinetree Way) and the Burquitlam Community Association will have its meeting Oct. 17 at 7 p.m. at Banting middle school (820 Banting St.).
Advance voting starts Oct. 16 at the Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Other early voting opportunities are Oct. 19 (Pinetree community centre); Oct. 23 (Poirier community centre); and Oct. 25 (Pinetree community centre).
If you have recently moved or are not on the provincial voters' list, you are asked to bring two pieces of ID to prove your residency and identity such as a drivers' licence, a BC Care Card or a social insurance card.
