Cottonwood to go to one lane
Burquitlam residents can learn more next week about an Evergreen Line construction project on Cottonwood Avenue.
The provincial government will host a meeting on Thursday, Oct. 10 from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Evergreen Line office (Barnet Highway and Mariner Way) in Coquitlam on its plan to narrow Cottonwood between North Road and Whiting Way. The street is expected to go down to a single, one-way eastbound lane.
Meanwhile, Maurice Gravelle, Coquitlam's general manager of strategic initiatives, told the city's council in committee this week a number of projects are underway in anticipation of rapid transit coming to Coquitlam.
The city is currently negotiating with the province for park-and-ride sites for 150 to 200 spots around SkyTrain stations in Coquitlam, he said. As well, the province has agreed to put special effects lighting into columns along North and Clarke roads and Pinetree Way.
The Evergreen Line will be running from Lougheed Town Centre, through Port Moody to Coquitlam City Centre by the summer of 2016.
