Lions Park renovations begin in Port Coquitlam
Work has begun on major renovations at Port Coquitlam's Lions Park that will include a new washroom, pathway, plaza and playground.
Construction began earlier this week and is expected to continue until May, with the washroom, promenade and plaza being completed in February.
The iconic tire dragon will be included in the design of the new playground, which will be built between February and May.
A spray park, separate play areas for children for ages two and five and ages six to 12, a parent seating plaza and play features that will be accessible to people of all abilities will also be incorporated into the design.
Aging park infrastructure made the renovations necessary, according to a city of Port Coquitlam press release, along with demand due to growth in the downtown area.
The parks was developed in the 1950s with the support of funding from the Port Coquitlam Lions. In 2007, the city's parks master plan included plans to improve the park and the city has been setting aside funds for that purpose.
