A $200,000 boost for more childcare spaces will go to a single daycare in Port Moody.

This week, PoMo-Coquitlam NDP MLA Rick Glumac announced — on behalf of B.C.’s ministry of children and family development — that 24 new licensed spots will open up for Block 8 Academy.

Run by Cindy and Danita Sepp, Block 8 currently provides before- and after-school programs and camps at the Port Moody Arts Centre.

Their grant is through the Child Care Major Capital Funding Program and is one of 103 projects to receive part of the $33-million disbursement, creating a total of 3,806 new childcare spaces around the province, according to a government news release.

In a statement, Glumac told The Tri-City News that each grant bid was evaluated by ministry staff and external stakeholders.
