UPDATE: Body found in Coquitlam, death deemed suspicious

Police are calling "suspicious" the death of the person whose body was found early Friday morning in Coquitlam.

In a press release Friday, Coquitlam RCMP said it received a report at 6:37 a.m. of anĀ abandoned vehicle at the 4000-block of Quarry Rd.

Officers who responded to the call found a body near the vehicle and an investigation is underway to determine how the person died.

According to a press release, "Based on the initial phase of the investigation, the death appears to be suspicious in nature."

The regional Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has been called in to work on the investigation with Coquitlam RCMP, which says the area around the suspected crime scene will be cordoned off for some time.

"Police are currently in the evidence gathering phase," the press release stated, "no further information will be provided at this time."
