A dozen inches of Rebecca Hansen's long, brunette hair will be chopped on Friday at an assembly before the annual Terry Fox school run — one of thousands happening at schools across the country this week.

The Port Coquitlam hero attended Glen elementary in Coquitlam, where Hansen is a K/1 French immersion teacher.

Her locks will be donated to make a wig for a young cancer patient if the school reaches its fundraising target of $4,500 for the Terry Fox Foundation (if it gets to $5,000, principal Sarah Husband will dye her hair and, at $5,550 v-p Ray Appel will be taped to a wall).

"Terry went here and it's nice to tell the kids that, one day, you can become a legend, too," Hansen said.
