An initiative by a Vancouver Island man to cancel the Site C dam project needs at least 10% support from every electoral district in B.C. to move forward.

Last week, Elections BC outlined the signature thresholds needed from each provincial constituency — including the Tri-Cities — for the petition to be considered by the Legislature:

• Coquitlam-Burke Mountain: 4,206

• Coquitlam-Maillardville: 3,721

• Port Coquitlam: 4,133

• Port Moody-Coquitlam: 3,844

Ion Delsol Moruso, a Duncan resident, has until Oct. 1 to submit the names under the Recall and Initiative Act; he also has a $1.173 million limit for expenses.

Moruso’s aim is to stop the construction of the BC Hydro dam project, currently underway on the Peace River. He cites the federal-provincial review panel’s findings on the project as well as the BC Utilities Commission’s report that stated the dam isn’t needed.

The controversial $10.7- billion infrastructure build was approved last year by the NDP government.
