A man is in custody after a lengthy chase on Highway 1 that ended in the Coquitlam stretch near the King Edward overpass.

Chillwack RCMP responded to a robbery at a local business at about 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday; the suspect had fled the area in a Chilliwack Taxi and was heading west on Highway 1.

The Port Mann Freeway Patrol caught up with the vehicle about an hour later and followed it in to Coquitlam, where it was boxed in near the King Edward Street overpass. The suspect was arrested while multiple lanes of the highway were blocked to traffic.

Cpl. Mike Rail of the Upper Fraser Valley Regional Detachment confirmed one man is in custody but the investigation is still in its early stages and it's not known yet what charges he may or may not be facing.
