At least one victim was rushed to hospital Friday evening in Coquitlam after reports of shots fired. A male was later pronounced dead.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has identified the victim of Friday night's fatal shooting in Coquitlam.

Donald Kelly, 45, was suffering from gunshot wounds when police found him inside a vehicle shortly after 10 p.m. in the 2700-block of Sylvan Place and Riverview Crescent. He was taken to hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

"Investigators believe that Mr. Kelly's death was targeted," IHIT said in a media release. "As of yet, there is no evidence to link Mr. Kelly's death to other recent homicides or reported acts of violence."

Shortly after arriving on scene, police were notified of a burning vehicle a short distance from the shooting at Mariner Way and Dartmoor Drive.

IHIT said the vehicle was a 2018 Chrysler 300 and investigators would like to speak with witnesses who may have seen anyone around the vehicle in the moments after the shooting.

"There are people who have information about what happened," said IHIT Cpl. Frank Jang. "I urge these individuals to come forward and speak with IHIT so that we can hold those responsible to account."
