Society issues statement over tragic death of Jill Calder

Jill Calder, pictured at right with Susanna Walden, was the executive director of the New View Society for 16 years. She was killed when a tree fell on her house during a windstorm today, Thursday.

This morning it was revealed that Jill Calder, executive director of the New View Society, died today in a tragic accident at her home in Port Moody.

Calder died when a tree fell on her home on Alpine Place off Noons Creek Drive.

The following statement was released today by New View Society:

"It is with extremely heavy hearts, the staff and Board of Directors of the New View Society announce the sudden and shocking loss of their Executive Director, Jill Calder. Jill passed away tragically in the early morning hours of March 10th when a tree fell on her house as she lay sleeping.

Jill was with the New View Society for 16 years overseeing all operations of the organization. Her education was in Business Management. She possessed an open management style with a team approach to her leadership. She created a caring and warm atmosphere which allowed her staff to deliver the best possible support services to the members they serve.

Prior to coming to New View Society she held a position in the Mayor’s Office within the City of Port Coquitlam. Her early career began with the Provincial Government in Manitoba, as well as various Associations and Societies including the Manitoba Lung Assn and the Surrey Opportunity Society. Jill will be remembered for being loyal, dedicated, fair, caring and extremely humble. She will be dearly missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing her."
