Letter: A fall, followed by helping hands from strangers

The Editor,

I am writing this letter to give a shout-out to the good people who are still out there in our community.

Last Tuesday, my 76-year-old mom took a nasty fall at the corner of Gordon Avenue and Christmas Way in Coquitlam. What was a scary situation that could have been serious turned out to have a lot of positives.

Immediately after my mom fell, a young couple passing by came to her aid. She’d hit her chin on the way down and had a deep gash that was bleeding quite heavily. The couple called for an ambulance and stayed with my mom until it arrived.

A Telus worker was driving by at the time and he, too, stopped to help. He had a first aid kit and my mom said he was very kind.

She is sad that she didn’t think to ask anyone’s name but wants these folks to know how appreciative she is of their help and kindness.

When the ambulance arrived, “Dave” the paramedic took good care of my mom, even lending her his cellphone so she could reach family. Again, mom raved about how nice he was.

When she arrived at emergency, she couldn’t remember my cell number but the admitting attendant went the extra mile and found it in the hospital records so she could track me down

And finally, the emergency room nurses and doctor were just lovely to mom. They took good care of her; they were efficient, pleasant and professional.

A huge thank you to everyone for your kindness.

Our faith in humanity has been affirmed.
