Carney contends at AA provincials

Archbishop Carney secondary will play for third place at the BC Secondary Schools Soccer Commission AA provincials in Burnaby on Wednesday.

Archbishop Carney secondary will play for third place at the BC Secondary Schools Soccer Commission AA provincials in Burnaby on Wednesday.

Carney lost their semi-final match on Tuesday to Fraser Valley arch rival Langley Fundamental, 1-0, after winning all three of its games in pool play that began on Monday.

Going into the game, Carney coach Giorgio Santoro called it a bit of a “grudge match” as the two teams had bounced each other from contention at the Fraser Valley championships the last two years. Carney prevailed and went on to the regional final last year, but Langley Fundamental got the upper hand on their Port Coquitlam rivals in the second round this year before claiming the regional championship.

In pool play, Carney beat Windsor 2-1, Notre Dame 3-1 and Brentwood College 1-0.

The bronze medal match goes at 11 a.m. at the Burnaby Lake Sports Complex West.
