Coquitlam track and field athlete Chanell Botsis is heading to the United States next year after signing a letter of intent for a full-ride scholarship with the University of Connecticut.

The 17-year-old Dr. Charles Best secondary student is a two time wall of fame recipient and is currently ranked second nationally in the female hammer throw. Botsis recently competed in the World Youth championships in Cali, Colombia, and won a bronze at the Western Canada Games last summer.

She also had a strong showing last year at the U.S. trials, picking up the silver.
