Express ground Eagles, again

For the second time in less than a week, the Coquitlam Express grounded the Surrey Eagles with an 8-1 pasting in their BC Hockey League game Wednesday at the Poirier Sports and Leisure Centre.

For the second time in less than a week, the Coquitlam Express grounded the Surrey Eagles with an 8-1 pasting in their BC Hockey League game Wednesday at the Poirier Sports and Leisure Centre. On Saturday the Express beat the team that’s tied for first in the Mainland division 4-1.

In their latest conquest, the Express scored three times in the first period, another in the second, and four more in the third to roll to their 11th regulation-time win of the season.

Colby Pederson got the party started 1:18 after the opening faceoff with his tenth goal of the season. Nichola Amsler followed that 1:42 later with the first of two goals he scored in the game.

After Jordan Schulting and Troy Robillard made it 4-0 for the home team, Ty Westgard got the Eagles on the scoresheet 16:15 into the second period.

Eric Linell, Amsler with his second, Devon Mussio and another goal by Schulting rounded out the Express scoring. In total 14 Coquitlam players registered at least a point.

Express goalie Brock Hamm stopped 27 of the 28 shots he faced, while his mates targetted 29 shots at Surrey goalies Mario Cavalierre and Daniel Davidson.

The Express, who have two wins and a tie in their last four games, host Nanaimo Friday, 7 p.m. at the Poirier Sports and Leisure Complex. They’ll then travel to the South Surrey Arena to play the Eagles again on Saturday before returning home for another game Sunday afternoon, 2 p.m., against Vernon.
