The Coquitlam Adanacs built a 9-1 lead and coasted to an 11-5 victory over the Langley Thunder in their BC Junior A Lacrosse League game at the Langley Events Centre on Thursday.

It was the Adanacs’ eighth straight win, including a 14-5 drubbing of the Delta Islanders on Wednesday at the Poirier Sport and Leisure Centre.

In Langley, the Adanacs were led by Gabe Procyk and Larson Sundown, who each had four point nights.

The visitors led 3-1 after the first period and 9-2 at the end of the second before the Thunder were able to put three past Coquitlam keeper Christian Del Bianco while the Adanacs replied with two more. Del Bianco faced 37 shots on the night, while his teammates fired 55 shots at Langley netminders Torin Vanrheenen and Braden Washington.

The game was pretty much a reprise of the Adanacs’ effort against Delta the night before, when they built an 11-1 lead by the end of the second period, then coasted in the final frame.

Chase Scanlan had three goals and four assists to lead all Coquitlam scorers while Procyk pitched in a goal and five assists.

The Adanacs’ win streak has propelled them six points ahead of their nearest rival in the league standings. Coquitlam has 27 points in 16 games while the Victoria Shamrocks have amassed 21 points in the same number of games.

The upstart PoCo Saints and New Westminster Salmonbellies are each a point back of Victoria but have played only 14 games.

The Saints host the Islanders tonight at 8 p.m. at the PoCo Rec Centre, and the Shamrocks visit on Sunday for a 4 p.m. start. The Adanacs will be in Nanaimo on Saturday for a game against the Timbermen.

Rees named to national team

PoCo Saints runner Ryland Rees has been named to Canada’s national team that will compete at the 2018 FIL Men’s Field Lacrosse Championship in Israel next month.

Rees will play big stick for the team looking to defend the championship it earned in Denver, Colo., in 2014 with a win over the United States.

Rees has 20 points in the eight games he’s played for the Saints this season. He’s coming off a strong junior season with the Stony Brook University SeaWolves, where he was the team’s captain and he was named to the America East Conference first all-star team.

One other active BCJALL player, Tre LeClair of the New Westminster Salmonbellies, was also named to the national team’s 23-player roster. Several local veterans will also travel to Netanya, Israel, for the tournament that begins on July 21, including Coquitlam’s Wesley Berg and Port Coquitlam’s Curtis Dickson.
