The Port Coquitlam Saints moved into second place in the BCJALL standings after they beat the Burnaby Lakers for the second time in four nights on Monday. They won both games by identical scores of 13-5.

The Saints now have 20 points in 14 games, three behind the league-leading Coquitlam Adanacs, who’ve also played 14 games.

Monday, at Burnaby’s Copeland Arena, the Saints scored eight times in the first period after Damon Prince had given the home team an early lead less than three minutes into the game.

The Lakers actually outscored PoCo 2-1 in the second period, but the visitors stormed back with four more goals in the third period while Burnaby answered with just two.

Connor Frost had four goals for the Saints, who fired 64 shots at Burnaby netminders Elijah Uema-Martin and Tyler Pongracz. Frost also added a pair of assists. That gave him a total of 12 points in the home-and-home set against the Lakers. Dylan Foulds, who had five points on Friday, added another seven on Monday.

The Saints and Lakers have also been active off the floor, swinging a pair of trades.

Last Thursday PoCo sent the playing rights for Kyle Hooper, whom they’d selected 22nd overall in the BCJALL’s 2018 entry draft, to Burnaby in exchange for a fifth-round selection in next year’s draft.

And on Friday the Saints acquired the rights for veteran two-way player Jordan Gabriele from the Lakers for PoCo’s fourth-round selection in next year’s draft. Gabriele had two goals and seven assists in 11 games for the Lakers this season. He has yet to make his debut for his new team.

The Saints play next on Friday, when they’ll host the Delta Islanders at 8 p.m. at the PoCo Rec Centre.

The Adanacs return to action tomorrow (Wednesday) against the Islanders at the Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex. They’ll then take on the Langley Thunder in Langley on Thursday.
