Tri-City track & field athletes medal at nationals

Track and field athlete Olivia Willett picked up a national medal at the Legion Track and Field Championship in Sainte Therese, Que., last week.

Track and field athlete Olivia Willett picked up a national medal at the Legion Track and Field Championship in Sainte Therese, Que., last week.

The Port Coquitlam athlete came in second place in the 2,000 m steeple chase, passing the bronze-medal finisher with a time of 7:02.52.

Willett also came close to taking the podium in the 1,500 m run, finishing with a personal best time of 4:39.20, less than a second behind the bronze medalist.

Meanwhile, Port Moody’s Jenevieve Patry-Smith hit a personal best in shot put, throwing a 12.09 m while picking up a bronze medal in the process. 

Later in the championship she won a bronze medal in javelin after throwing 38.21 m, just missing silver by 2 cm.
