Riders in the annual Cops for Cancer Tour de Coast arrive at Glen Pine Pavillion in Coquitlam on Tuesday morning with a police escort, of course. The tour, which runs from Sept. 20 to Sept. 28, is comprised of members of law enforcement and emergency services personel from around Metro Vancouver. They cycle hundreds of kilometres Sechelt to Richmond to raise money for cancer research. Two members of the Coquitlam RCMP, Cst. Sienna
Cooke and Cpl. Neil Roemer, are participating in this year's ride, while Cst. Doug Riley of the Port Moody police is riding in the Tour de Valley.
“Everyone is affected by cancer in some way, and I especially feel
for kids with cancer,” Cooke said. "I want to do something to help make
sure kids with cancer can still be kids.”
This year's tour has already raised more than $500,000.
After a brief pitstop in Coquitlam, the peloton rode on to Maple Ridge.
