Families and staff were sent letters informing of possible COVID-19 exposures at two Richmond schools.

The two schools, James McKinney elementary and Cambie secondary, received the letters on March 12 and 14.

According to the letter to families and staff at James McKinney elementary, an exposure to the virus occurred on March 8 and 9 and everyone is asked to self-monitor for signs and illness until March 23.

Cambie secondary did not publish any exposure dates in their letter.

“Those who need to self-isolate are contacted directly by Public Health. If you have not been contacted, you do not need to self-isolate,” VCH said.

Both letters were posted on BC School Covid Tracker Facebook group, an online group tracking COVID-19 cases in B.C. schools.

VCH has yet to update these exposures to their online list of exposures.

Testing is recommended for those who have symptoms of the coronavirus including:

  • Coughing
  • Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea
  • Loss of taste and smell
  • Fever and chills
  • Shortness of breath.

Richmond School District Superintendent Scott Robinson noted at the Feb. 24 school board meeting that, while there have been exposures, there have been no known transmission of COVID-19 so far in Richmond schools.
