There were 34 new COVID-19 cases detected in Richmond over the past week – the total number since the beginning of the pandemic now sits at 191.

The number of cases has been creeping upwards in Richmond, with 21 reported last week and 20 the week before.

Thursday’s total new COVID-19 cases in B.C., as reported by the provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry, was the highest one-time amount since the beginning of the pandemic – 139 cases were detected over the past 24 hours throughout the province.

There are 42 people in hospital with 14 of those in intensive care or ICU.

There are currently no outbreaks at long-term or hospital facilities in Richmond, but Vancouver Coastal Health reported yesterday possible exposure at the Flying Beaver Bar and Grill near the airport's south terminal between Aug. 28 and Sept. 3.

The BC Centre for Disease Control released its weekly data on Thursday evening, giving the total number in Richmond over the past two weeks, which was 53 new cases.
