En plein air painter at Art Focus meeting

Painter to talk about bold brush strokes at Art Focus meeting

Summer Tides by Jane Appleby.

Jane Appleby is always looking for new landscapes.

A teacher at Coquitlam’s Place des Arts since 2007, the Czech Republic emigrant often captures her abstract scenes outdoors — in the plein air tradition of the Group of Seven — using bold brush strokes in oil, acrylic and watercolour paints to represent the rhythm of her forms like in Summer Tide (image shown).

On Feb. 27, the Burnaby and Galiano Island resident — who is also on the gallery committee a the Port Moody Arts Centre — will show her skill in the monthly Art Focus Artists Association demonstration, in The Outlet at Leigh Square Community Arts Village (behind Port Coquitlam city hall).

The event starts at 7 p.m. and is free to the public. Visit myartclub.com/art.focus.
