Advance voting opens today

You can cast your vote early for a candidate in the federal election.

Today (Friday) marks the first day of advance voting, with further opportunities on Oct. 12, 13 and 14.

The polls for advance voting are open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Electors can only vote at their assigned polling station, which is different from provincial elections where voters can go to any polling station.

On election day, Oct. 21, the polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

To vote, you must:

• be a Canadian citizen;

• be at least 18 years old on Oct. 21;

• and prove your identity and address.

Visit elections.ca to know what identification is accepted.

And don’t forget to bring your voter information card that was mailed out by Elections Canada to make the voting process smoother.

Voter turnout in B.C. for the 2015 federal election was 70%.
