A few hearty souls in wetsuits were spotted in the surf near Dundarave Beach Jan. 11 as temperatures hovered around 5 C and winds gusting up to 70 kilometres per hour hit the Lower Mainland, with some areas registering gusts as high as 90 km/h. The winds were so fierce that the District of West Vancouver was forced to close the waterfront Seawalk after waves kicked up by the winds created “unsafe conditions.”
