Man allegedly refuses to wear mask in Vancouver convenience store, spits in clerk's face

This seems totally rational, right?

Vancouver police arrested a man yesterday after he allegedly spat in a clerk's face.

When a man wouldn't put a mask on in a downtown convenience store, things escalated quickly.

The man was told to put on a mask while in the store. The man refused to put on a mask. The clerk responded by refusing to serve the man, according to a press release from the Vancouver Police Department.

So the man spat in the clerk's face, allegedly.

That brought things to a full boil and the two got into a physical fight.

The incident happened Monday (Feb. 8) at a convenience store at the intersection of Seymour and Dunsmuir. The suspect fled the scene but didn't get too far.

"Responding officers were able to locate the suspect and take him into custody,” says Cst. Tania Visintin.

Police are recommending assault charges against the suspect, a 36-year-old local man.

“This is yet again another selfish action and senseless assault that continues to go on in our city,” says Visintin. “No employee deserves to be assaulted for simply following the health orders set in place.”

Masks are required in all shops in B.C. as per the provincial health order in order to stop the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19).
