Coquitlam residents are set to have two familiar faces at the Metro Vancouver table next year.
At tonight’s meeting, city council is expected to return Mayor Richard Stewart and Coun. Craig Hodge as directors of the regional board.
Stewart carries four votes on behalf of Coquitlam’s interests while Hodge has three votes. Councillors Trish Mandewo and Brent Asmundson are expected to be appointed as their alternates.
As for Metro standing committees and task forces, of which the candidates’ names are forwarded to the board chair for consideration, Coquitlam is nominating Stewart to be back on the COVID-19 Response Task Force, the Finance and Intergovernment Committee, the Liquid Waste Committee and the Regional Planning Committee.
Hodge is also set to return to the Regional Parks Committee and Zero Waste Committee — the latter of which he is the current vice-chair.
Council will also forward appointment requests for:
• Coun. Chris Wilson, Climate Action Committee
• Coun. Steve Kim, Electoral Area and Regional Cultural committees
• Coun. Teri Towner, Housing Committee
• Coun. Bonita Zarrillo, Indigenous Relations Committee
• Coun. Dennis Marsden, Performance and Audit Committee
• Coun. Brent Asmundson, Water Committee
And it’s recommending either Asmundson or Marsden be picked for the Regional Economic Prosperity Management Board.
Last year, Stewart received $28,564 for attending Metro meetings while Hodge collected $23,423.
By comparison, Port Coquitlam Mayor Brad West claimed $10,719 and Port Moody Mayor Rob Vagramov took in $5,161. Board chair Satvinder Dhaliwal reaped $86,211.
