Northern Caps’ Cap commits to one of Canada’s top women’s university hockey teams

Paige Outhouse will trek east to Prince Edward Island next Fall

A Prince George hockey product has decided to move across the country when she graduates high school in June.

Northern Capitals’ Paige Outhouse has signed a scholarship to play for the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) next September for the 2020-21 season.

The 17-year-old is third in team-scoring with 10 points in 16 games, currently on a streak of seven in her last five.

Originally from Williams Lake, Outhouse was named team captain for her final season on the female midget AAA squad, who are third in the B.C. standings at the holiday break.

“I felt that from the very beginning of the season by being the only third-year,” she said in an earlier interview with PrinceGeorgeMatters.

“I felt like I had to put my right foot forward and help the team out with some things they might not know coming up from bantam and it’s a ‘we’ mentality already.”

This year, UPEI’s women’s hockey program is one of the best at Canada’s highest-level of university sport with a fifth-place ranking in the latest U-Sports Top 10 report.

The Panthers have already clinched a playoff spot with 10 games left in the 2019-20 campaign, sitting second in the Atlantic with a record of 14-3-1.

UPEI won its first and only women’s conference title in 2012, have made eight of the last 10 post-seasons and hosted last year’s national finals tournament.

Outhouse will graduate from Prince George Secondary School in the summer.

She is the younger sister of Griffen Outhouse, a former Cariboo Cougar and current goaltender within the Winnipeg Jets’ organization.

The Northern Capitals return to the ice Jan. 10, 2020 for an inter-league tournament in Coquitlam before hosting three games in the Nechako Valley.

The ladies welcome the Greater Vancouver Comets for a pair of contests in Vanderhoof and Fort St. James before taking it outside Jan. 19 at Ernie Sam Memorial Arena.
