2 youths arrested after man robbed at knifepoint in Port Moody

Man selling two expensive belts robbed on St. George Street; two suspects from Coquitlam were arrested, one was not found
Port Moody Police arrested two suspects and are looking for a third after a man was robbed at knifepoint while trying to sell belts to people he met on social media.

Two people were arrested after a Port Moody man was robbed at knife-point of two expensive belts he was attempting to sell Saturday afternoon.

Police said the complainant met with three males at around 3 p.m. in the 2700-block of St. George Street, where the transaction was suppose to occur. Instead, one suspect produced the knife and the trio made off with the goods.

“Officers conducted foot patrols in the area and were directed by a pedestrian to where one of the males was hiding,” said Port Moody Police Sgt. Brad Sheridan. “He was arrested without incident. A second male was also arrested when another pedestrian coincidentally located him hiding in a nearby dumpster.”

The third suspect was not found and only one of the belts was recovered, Sheridan said.

Both of the people taken into custody were youths from Coquitlam and they were released to their parents.

Sheridan said charges have not yet been approved but police are still investigating.

He also advised residents to use public places when buying and selling items from people they have met online.

“We would also say that physical distancing is very important right now and some consideration should be given to postponing these types of transactions,” he added.
