Who purchased the $30 million winning ticket in Coquitlam? The public will never know.

In a rare move, the BC Lottery Corporation has granted anonymity to the $30 million Lotto 6/49 winner who purchased a ticket in Coquitlam, even though the win was the largest prize draw in BCLC history.

The IGA located on Parkway Boulevard in Coquitlam sold the single winning ticket for the $30M Lotto 6/49 jackpot from the April 25, 2018 draw, and, after investigating the circumstances, BCLC agreed to the condition of anonymity at the request of the winner.

Typically, one of the conditions of claiming a prize is that a winner must consent to BCLC publishing their name, photo, place of residence and prize.

"Based on this investigation, BCLC has made the rare decision to grant the winner’s request for anonymity. BCLC grants anonymity on a case-by-case basis, as every situation is unique. The circumstances must be extraordinary and substantiated with evidence that is verifiable and capable of independent confirmation," BCLC stated in a press release.

According to BCLC, the ticket was claimed May 1 and was paid Wednesday, May 30.
