A small uptick in break-ins in Anmore has prompted a warning from the Coquitlam RCMP.

While the village of 2,200 typically sees less than one break-in a month, there have been three so far in 2020.

Mounties are reminding residents to make sure their doors and windows are locked, their alarms are set and their security cameras are placed in locations that can best monitor access points.

"Even though the crime numbers are extremely low in Anmore, we take all these reports seriously," said Coquitlam RCMP Cpl. Michael McLaughlin.

"We have a unit of three RCMP officers who are exclusively dedicated to investigating all crimes for Anmore and Belcarra. The officers are actively investigating these [break-ins] and working with the villages on crime prevention."

Even with the increase, reports of thefts in Anmore are extremely low. Last year, there were 11 break-ins in the village, which compares to 500 in Coquitlam and 300 in Port Coquitlam.
