Port Moody police attended a domestic disturbance Wednesday night. The situation was quickly resolved police say.

A woman was hurt in an alleged incident of domestic abuse Wednesday evening on Heritage Mountain that drew a heavy police presence to the neighbourhood.

The incident allegedly occurred in the 1500-block of Fernwood Place at about 8:17 p.m. Upon arrival, police learned a female victim had been assaulted and fled the home while the suspect remained inside and did not respond to attempts by officers to communicate with him.

Sgt. Travis Carroll of PoMo Police Department's Community Services Section said the residence was contained and the suspect eventually came out, then was taken into custody.

The woman was transported to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries, police say, while the man was also taken to hospital with self-inflicted injuries.

Both PMPD's Major Crimes Section and Victim Services responded to the call and an investigation is ongoing.

As of Thursday morning, the suspect was in police custody, according to PMPD.
