The BC Coroner's Service is asking for the public's help to identify a man whose partial skull was found last December in Anmore.
Bill Inkster, the service's manager of identification and disaster response unit, said a hiker was travelling along the forested power line northeast of the village when he discovered the remains and turned them over to police.
Inkster said the cranium has no teeth and, therefore, investigators are not able to get the DNA of the victim.
But because it's believed the man had a "unique feature" on the right side of his head - a possible injury that resulted in surgery to his skull during the 1980s or 1990s that left distortion and scarring - and it is hoped someone will remember him.
The man's ethnic background isn't known but it is estimated he was between 45 and 65 years old when he died many years ago.
Inkster said the place where he was found is a well-known site for suicides, though it is not known how this victim died.
