With more rain in the forecast this week, the city of Coquitlam is asking residents to take steps to help mitigate flood risks in their neighbourhood.

Public works crews have been busy ensuring drainage intakes and critical catch basins remain unclogged and people can help in the effort.

The city is asking residents to clean their foundation drains and sumps, which can become blocked with leaves and dirt that needs to be flushed out. When clogged, water can build up and flood as it is directed to the city's storm sewer system.

People can help mitigate water backups by clearing any ditches or culverts along their property that may be clogged. They should also refrain from blowing leaves from private property onto city streets.

Any person that witnesses issues with the city's drainage system can call Coquitlam's 24-hour engineering line at 604-927-3500.
