The province has set up a site where residents of Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam and Port Moody can sign up to receive advisories when air quality in the area becomes poor.

Metro Vancouver has ended a fine particulate matter air quality bulletin for the Tri-Cities and the rest of the Lower Mainland and Central Fraser Valley that has been in effect since Friday, Nov. 1.

The initial bulletin was put into place after Metro Vancouver in cooperation with Environment and Climate Change Canada predicted a temperature inversion would lead to poorer quality air — something that is of particular concern to people with chronic underlying medical conditions such as pregant women, infants, elderly and anyone with diabetes, and lung or heart disease.

Air quality has improved due to changes in the weather that have increased dispersion of air contaminants from emissions sources in the region,” wrote a spokesperson for Metro Vancouver in a media advisory.
