Kelly Girl Vintage — a business owned by a Port Coquitlam city hall employee — and the Tri-City branch of Soroptomist International took the top honours at the seventh annual PoCo Heritage Christmas Tree Festival.

Kelly Girl won the People’s Choice business award (with Meyer Frers Chartered Professional Accountants and Mayfair Terrace Retirement Residence scooping the second and third spots) while the Soroptomists collected first prize in the People’s Choice community category (followed by PoCo Skating Club and PoCo Genealogy).

Mayfair also earned the judges’ nod for best business tree and the Amanda Todd Legacy Society won the best judged community tree.

Sponsored in part by The Tri-City News, the Christmas Tree Festival is a fundraiser for PoCo Heritage.

Meanwhile, Kanchan Lal was this month named the museum co-ordinator to replace Kelly Brown, who has taken a cultural job in Delta.

Lal is a history and political science graduate of SFU and has worked in museums in Canada and around the world, focusing on education and programming.

Also, Julie Schmidt was recently appointed as PoCo Heritage board president following the resignation of Linda Sliworsky.
