A dispute between four young males tuned nasty early Wednesday, Jan. 2 when three of those involved were bear sprayed.

Port Moody police attended the scene in the area of St Johns Street and Ioco Road at approximately 12:05 a.m., where they were told a verbal dispute with a fourth unknown male ended with the trio being sprayed by a substance believed to be bear-spray.

The unknown suspect fled the scene before police arrived.

“Fortunately, the trio was able to decontaminate themselves utilizing water from a nearby store, thus ambulance was not required,” stated Const. Jason Maschke in a press release.

And while Lower Mainland Police Dog canines searched the area, the suspect was not located.

Investigators also examined video surveillance footage.

A parent was called who took the three to their homes and police believe this is an isolated incident involving a dispute within a small group of individuals.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Port Moody Police Department or Crime Stoppers (bccrimestoppers.com).
