The date for the big reveal of the first phase of the revamped and renamed Port Coquitlam community centre has been revealed.

PoCo residents can finally get a look at the new facility at the grand opening Aug. 27, 4 to 7 p.m. The reveal includes free skating, entertainment and activities.

Phase one includes two new ice sheets, a new Terry Fox Library, a lobby and multi-purpose spaces for seniors and youth, including a games room and a kitchen.

Regular hours for the new facility will start the next day. It will be open Monday to Saturday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The city expects the leisure pool and fitness centre all be completed by early 2020. Phase 2 isn’t scheduled to be completed until 2021. It will include a third ice sheet, gymnasium, children’s area, more multi-purpose space, parking and an outdoor plaza.

When completed, the new $132-million facility in PoCo’s downtown will be 205,000 sq. ft.
