How have you been affected by the coronavirus outbreak? We want to hear your questions, stories and concerns. Here’s how you can get in touch.

A Tri-Cities Chinese cultural group has donated over $22,000 to Port Moody’s Eagle Ridge Hospital to help it sustain its emergency needs as it responds to the COVID-19 outbreak.

The Tri-City Chinese Community Society (TCCS) had been donating money to the hospital since 2018, according to a press release, largely raising funds through events.

This time around Linda Li, president of the TCCS, said the group started raising money when they heard about the hospital’s COVID-19 emergency fund. As they spread the word amongst its members, donations started coming in online through the group’s website and through the special fund set up to help the hospital.

“We also have donors from outside the Tri-Cities community – residents from Vancouver, West Vancouver, White Rock, and Surrey. More impressively, we received donations from residents of China who have children studying in Canada,” said Linda Li in the release.

“We wish that through our actions we can inspire others from different communities to do the same. Some of our donors have been laid off but still gave in an effort to help in the fight against COVID-19. We want to express our gratitude to everyone who has contributed from our community and encourage others to stay home and donate to ERHF’s emergency response fund,” added Li.

So far, it appears to be working. The Eagle Ridge Hospital Foundation said the chunk of money has “truly kick-started” fundraising for the hospital’s Emergency Needs during the COVID-19 Response Fund.

Donations, notes the foundation, will provide help to patients and staff with the greatest need as the impacts of the COVID-19 crisis unfolds within the community.
