Updated: Bear trapped in Coquitlam mall underground parking

Conservation officers tranquilized bruin that wandered in during the heat of the day Friday afternoon

A cool parking lot proved to be the wrong place to be for a black bear that wandered in Friday afternoon.

As temperatures soared, the black bear walked into the underground parking lot at Henderson Place mall, drawing police and conservation officers to the scene.

The bear was subsequently trapped and tranquilized by BC Conservation officers who entered the underground lot in a truck.

The public was not in danger.

According to Coquitlam RCMP, the bear was walking in the area from PoCo Place Mall across the street.

“It didn't seem to worry about people,” said Sgt. Grant Wong.
